If you’re considering a care home for yourself or loved one, this month is the perfect opportunity to explore some of the region’s finest homes. This year National Care Home Open Day suggested theme is ‘celebration’ and care homes are going all out to make the most of it. If you want to see a care home in its full glory, speak to staff and explore the facilities, here are a couple of diary dates not to miss:
17 June, Highfield Care Home, Saffron Walden, Essex
The purpose-built care home offering elderly residential, nursing and dementia care will be opening its doors to the public from 2 – 5pm. It will be an opportunity to see life in a care home with demonstrations of activities that are organised as well as samples of the delicious food the chef prepares for its residents. Tea and cake will be served to visitors.
12 June, Ferrars Hall Care Home, Huntingdon
One of Country Court Care’s purpose-built residential homes, situated in the rural market town of Huntingdon, Ferrars Hall Care Home is spread over three floors, and will be registered to provide personalised residential and dementia care in a luxury environment.
Ferrars Hall will be hosting an open day on the 12 June at 11am. Visitors are welcome to rake a tour of the facilities, enjoy a buffet lunch and meet the team.
The home has been purpose built in traditional stone to promote a lifestyle for residents that offers superior accommodation and a high quality of personalised care. The home will boast 66 en-suite bedrooms, a hair salon, a café/bistro, a shop, a cinema room, and numerous lounges and communal areas.
17 June, Bentley House, Hertford
Bentley House, a purpose built home which offer exceptional accommodation at an affordable price, was opened by Signature Senior Lifestyle in January 2015. To celebrate National Care Home Day, Bentley House will be holding a full day of exciting activities.
From 10am to 12noon, Bentley Houses teams will be taking on a ‘Ready, Steady Cook’ challenge, a BBQ lunch of meat, fish and salad is to follow. In the afternoon the home will be showcasing its range of exercise classes including chair based exercise specially designed to stimulate and ‘Fit as a fiddle in the Cedars’, the dementia suite.
The day will finish with a craft workshop at 3pm and ‘Melodies for the Mind’ in the Cedars, which focuses on group singing that has been proven to lower stress, relive anxiety and elevate endorphins. Throughout the day there will be regular tours of the facilities and show suites.
17 June, All Hallows Nursing Home, Bungay, Suffolk
National Care Home Day encourages local people to visit care homes in their community and to work together to develop better relationships. This important connection is something that All Hallows Nursing Home has nurtured, it already opens its doors to the public a few times a year. This year as part of the Queen’s Birthday celebration’s the home will be holding a Summer Fayre with afternoon tea on 11 June and a Christmas Fayre is planned in December.
As part of the Care Home Open Day 2016, All Hallows Nursing Home is opening its doors so people can see what it is really like to stay in the home. It will be focusing on the range of activities and days out that the residents get involved with and the choice of food that is available. During the afternoon the team will be joined by members from the Aldeburgh Music Group who have an exciting musical activity planned for the residents and daycare clients in the home. Family, friends and members from the general public are welcome to join in.
17 June, Foxburrow Grange, Colchester, Essex
Foxburrow Grange, a specialist nursing and dementia care home, will be welcoming visitors to view the care home and meet the team from 10am – 4pm, on 17 June. As well as refreshments, the activity coordinator will continue with normal activities throughout the day so visitors can get a real insight into the home on a day to day basis.
